Welcome back to good ol' America, my elevator ride...
Delivery guy: So how'd you spend your summer?
Me: Well I studied abroad in China last semester and just stayed through with an internship.
DG: Oh, wow. Must have been interesting.
Me: Yeah, it was. It's a totally different world over there.
DG: Hm, yeah I gotta buddy who went over there. Got himself a wife.
Me: *raise eyebrow* Oh, yeah?...I guess they got those there.
DG: Mhmm, he brought her over, but she'd been lying, so her took her back. Got himself a new one.
Me: *thinking: holy crap don't laugh*
DG: Maybe about 10-15 years younger. Worked out, though. I think he has two kids with her now. Yeah, she's a hard worker. You should sign up for one of those, too! *long chuckle*
Me: *awkward hesitant laugh, maybe he means sign up for a Chinese husband? This is weird.* Well, alright, see you later.
After he left I just burst out laughing. Omg, I couldn't help how awkward and bad that conversation was. Here's the average middle-aged American man talking about "gettin a wife" in China. Dang. Man, you always wonder what impression people have of China, and sometimes it really surprises you.
